Question:
I am African American and have a horrible keloid scar in the back of my head which has left a bald patch. I was wondering if a hair transplant can improve the way it looks.

Answer:
It is possible to transplant into scars; however, thick hypertrophic and/or keloid scars generally have poor results with transplanting grafts into that area.

Generally, it is recommended that steroid injections into the keloid itself be performed to try and reduce the size and flatten out and/or smooth out the texture of the scar itself. At that point, it may be attempted to place grafts into the scar and it is possible to have some hair growth and additional coverage of the scar with that method.
