Question:
Is there anything that I can do to prevent scabs from forming after the hair transplant? I am a “natural picker” and I am terrified that I will unconsciously pick the scabs. I do not want to ruin the new grafts.

Answer:
There is no way to prevent scab formation following a hair transplantation procedure. However, with some of the newer post-operative techniques including the use of graft site spray and I use also in addition an ocean-water spray, these help to limit the amount of scabbing and reduce the amount of time that the scabs are present.

Patients do have to realize that there will be small scabs and will have to pay extra attention to trying not to pick the scabs, leaving them alone until they are ready to fall off naturally. Falling off on their own has minimal disruption of the grafts that were performed during the hair transplantation procedure.
